When: March 15 - 22, 2020
Where: Bali, Indonesia
Price: Starting from 1600 USD
Capacity: Maximum 14 people

Imagine spending a week practicing handstands and arm balances at a private beachfront resort. In between the workshops, you can get a massage, swim in the ocean, enjoy a fresh coconut, or read your book at one of the many outdoor sitting areas. It's going to be unforgettable!

From March 15 to 22, 2020, I'll host my 5th handstand retreat. I'm excited to be welcoming another amazing group to Bali. During the week, I'll facilitate ten workshops on handstands, arm balances, and ways to transition between them. On this page, you find more information about what to expect.

This retreat is for beginners and intermediate practitioners who are looking to uplevel their practice. I take a maximum of 14 people, so you can be sure to receive a lot of personal attention.

Our movement PRACTICE

There will be two workshops a day.

During the first two days, I'll make sure everyone has a correct understanding of the foundations for handstands. We'll cover:

✓ The 7-item handstand checklist
✓ Straight handstand alignment
✓ How to effectively develop balance
✓ What to do when you fall backward
✓ How to spot someone in a handstand

On the third day, besides practicing handstands, we'll take a closer look at the foundations of arm balances. Our focus will be on bent-arm strength, as this plays a pivotal role in complex transitions.

Day four will be a full day off. You can choose to go on a cultural trip, enjoy a deep tissue massage, or explore the underwater world while snorkeling.

During day five and six, we'll deepen your practice by adding movement to your handstand and arm balance practice. We'll cover:

✓ The six fundamental leg shapes
✓ The three handstand head positions
✓ A variety of entries to handstand
✓ Arm balance and handstand transitions
✓ How to program your handstand practice

our home for the week

We'll stay at an eco-resort situated on a hill close to a charming black sand beach with a spectacular view all around. The sun rises over the ocean and sets behind Mount Agung, with a beautiful display of colors. The resort’s swimming pool has a plant filtering system and vortex inlet to avoid large amounts of chemicals. Please be mindful of this when using sunscreen.

The resort has five luxurious shared rooms and six small single rooms. The rooms are constructed from local material and provide sufficient ventilation. Since it's an eco-resort, there is no air conditioning. All rooms have fans. You'll find organic soap and shampoo in the bathroom. I kindly request you not to use chemicals because the shower water gets recycled for watering the garden.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are freshly prepared and served buffet style. To keep you hydrated, you can order as much tea, fresh coconut water, fruit juices, smoothies, and kombucha as you'd like. I've already covered this for everyone, so please feel free to make use of it!

Book your flight to Denpasar International Airport, also known as Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). From the airport, you can take a taxi to the resort, which takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. I'll be able to help you arrange transportation to and from the resort.

I recommend you arrive at the resort between 12:00 and 17:00 on March 15, so you can get settled in before dinner. During our first dinner, we'll introduce ourselves and get to know each other a bit better.

On March 22, we'll leave the resort around midday.

Retreat About.jpeg

My name is Mark das.

As a yoga teacher, I’m passionate about handstands and arm balances.

My very first handstand was eight years ago when I was living as a monk at a Shaolin Kung Fu monastery in China. I immediately fell in love with the practice.

For the past five years, I’ve been passionately teaching handstands and arm balances to yoga practitioners around the world. My experience has allowed me to distill the essential elements that make up a well-rounded practice. I now present this system to my students — both online and at international workshops, festivals, weeklong retreats, and yoga teacher trainings.

During my Bali Handstand Retreat, you learn both how and why we perform handstands and arm balances a certain way. Besides balancing on your hands, you’ll deepen your understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics. As my student, I encourage you to be proactive, think critically, and ask questions.

While developing your handstand and arm balance practice, it is invaluable to receive direct verbal and physical feedback. I’m happiest seeing my students thrive and prefer teaching in a setting that allows for personal attention. Therefore, my retreat is limited to a maximum of 14 students.
